Who are we?
We are Six Helicopter Instructors from
Sixty (R) Squadron, based at the Defence Helicopter Flying School at RAF
Shawbury, Shropshire and we will be taking part in the 2008 staples2naples
car rally and the
aim is to raise funds for the Shropshire County
Air Ambulance

What do we do?
The Squadron currently trains Pilots and Weapons Systems Operators to Fly the Griffin HT1 helicopter. At the end of their training at Shawbury they are presented with their Wings and move on to conduct further training to fly frontline aircraft, such as the Chinook, Puma and Merlin.
Sixty (R) Squadron has already raised OVER £6500 in 2007 and plan to raise a similar amount this year.
We are entering two teams in the S2N rally which is not an event, it's an attitude, in fact it's a "Banger Rally for Wage Slaves.
When is it?
The rally takes place over the weekend of the 19th to 22nd September and covers a distance of at least 1400 miles, Although it's called Staples to Naples, the rally actually starts in Calais (France) and finishes in Naples, Italy with around 130 teams competing. The teams have to adhere to strict rules which include that the entered car cannot be worth more than £100, must be older than 1995, but must still be taxed, MOT’d, insured and roadworthy.
The teams are set various challenges to complete over the four days, not the least of which will be negotiating tricky Alpine passes in very old cars, and making it intact to Naples. There is a final prize of £1000 awarded to the team that gains the most points from the various challenges set. If successful the teams also plan to donate this to the chosen charity.

They did it in high performance cars and we are doing it in old Bangers.
Please note the start-up and any ancillary costs of the event will be wholly borne by personal contributions from the team members.
What can you do?
We are actively looking for cars, sponsors, donations and gifts (gifts to be auctioned off and money raised will be donated to the chosen charity).
What will we do?
First we plan to have some fun but, for you that is the Companies that sponsor us or support us we will advertise you on our web site and on the vehicles. For the general public we will add you to our Wall Of Fame.
